Tonight I discovered I am being abused. Christ! This is very hard to say and I am happy this is anonymous.
This night Daddy threatened to beat me up for saying the truth. He asked me a question and I couldn’t remember the correct answer so I began my answer with “I think…” He began screaming at me for not knowing the right answer and called me a liar.
I am 18 years old and like many Nigerian brought-ups, I know the brutal physical consequences that come with lying to Daddy.
It was because I didn’t want to lie that I started with I think. He started mentioning other issues like how I ‘always’ look sad after he shouts at me in public and how it makes him angry. He claims I don’t take to correction because I look sad after he shouts at me.
The trust is sometimes I just can’t be happy about him shouting at me. He wants be to smile when I am sad. He doesn’t want me to tell him I am unhappy and he is forcing my mum to treat me the same way.
He likes to say he is correcting me but he is making me sad. If you don’t say anything because you are sad, he says you don’t respect him. If you talk, you don’t respect him. If you stay on your own, you don’t respect him.
Today he called me ‘a bad child’ and he is ashamed of me.
I don’t know what to do. I still live in our house and this night is not the first time he has threatened to beat me up for feeling sad. I can’t count how many times he has beaten me up in the past for feeling sad after he shouts at me. What should I do?

I think you should tell your dad how you feel, tell him how much you love him being your father and trying to put you in the right path. Also tell him how you respect him and will always do what is right to make him happy. I am sure he loves you very much but is only strict

Look , I went through what you went through same story
    My dad emotionally abuses me
All the time he beats me for just no just reasons,he heats me for just the little thing that shouldn’t matter like why is this pen here,

    I stood up to him
I wouldn’t have never imagined doing that even in my dreams

I gave him a knife told him to kill me
I told him to finish me once and for all cause I can’t take it in anymore

Ever since I faced my fears I have been breathing fine and leaving normal
