I have abused alcohol and cigarettes for almost a decade. I think of ending my life, but I don’t know how to do it without pain. I have a mental health issue and I am tired of the battle.

It’s truly saddening to learn that you have been struggling with alcohol and nicotine dependence; and I applaud your strength for wanting to seek help.

Dealing with any form of addiction can be a tough struggle and it is important to know that you are not alone and that there is help available to you. Firstly, seek the support of a licensed counselling therapist; someone who specializes in helping people dealing with addiction. They can help you find methods to cope and go through life without the use of drugs and you improve in your mental health.

Also, try to engage in selfcare like exercising, eating healthy, meditating and avoid situation or social activities that would make you want to use drugs or alcohol. Talk to close friends and family member too, it will help you feel less alone and depressed.

Remember overcoming any form of addiction takes time and effort but with the right people around you and with your consistent effort change is possible.
