I met my ex during my service year in Warri, convinced him to move to Lagos after our service year and we started job hunting together. In fact, he even used my money for transportation while searching for jobs, and he eventually secured a position at GT Bank. After some time, we agreed to focus on ourselves individually. I also started job hunting and eventually got a job, so I was somehow stable.Then, I suggested that we start building something together. We decided to look for a place, and he found a self-contained room. We discussed how much each of us had, and he rented the apartment. I even lent him some money because he said he wanted to buy a bed, a wardrobe, and other furnishings. The money I had been saving to start a business,I gave it to him to set up the apartment.Even though we weren’t officially living together, it felt like we were because I would cook at my place and take the food to his. We did almost everything together. In the mornings before work, I would cook and pack his food and give it to him at the bus stop since we took the same transport route. Although we didn’t work at the same place, we worked in the same area.Do you know what he eventually told me? He said he was tired. He said that at first, he enjoyed everything I was doing for him, but now it felt bitter. He said he couldn’t do things on his own anymore and that it bothered him. He even said that he felt I had done more for him than his own mother ever had, and that was unsettling for him.Then, he told me he couldn’t marry me. He said he knew what he wanted, and I wasn’t the kind of woman he could see himself with. He said he didn’t want to be engaged to me. Now, I’m left wondering,where do I even begin?
