Hello all,
I am a Nigerian girl, from Benin City to be precise. And if you are familiar with this side of the world, fetish beliefs and practices are common. I lost my mum in 2018, due to “cancer’. My mother’s children never played any attention to her during her illness. I had to go write my exams from the Ward where she was admitted. I am the last child of 7 children which she gave birth to. My mum married 3 men, my dad being the last. I am the only child she gave birth to for my father, that is to say they were my step Brothers and sisters. My mum was a trader. She stopped school at junior secondary. She was a very hard working woman and a devout Christain. Before she died, I dreamt of it. I told her, but she waved it off and said nothing of that sort will happen. Even throughout the period of her sickness was traumatic for me. Knowing that there was practically nothing I could do to save her. It enveloped my thoughts. I struggled to write and pass my final exams by faith. Seeing someone who was as strong as an ox, filled with life and energy, reduced to a mere caricature of herself. She was Soo thin , very weak and she had a haunted, scary
look, like she was already gone and not there. Being unable to do anything for her killed me. I left school to take her to different churches as it was believed to be a spiritual attack. Both orthodox and spiritual remedies failed at this point. Her incident changed my Outlook on life. She was my rock, my pillar, my advisor. I was basically useless without a her for the first 3 months. Since then I haven’t been able to recover fully. I keep feeling as if she’s going to come back. I keep waiting for things to go back to normal. She was my normal. I don’t know where to go from here. Meanwhile, in all of these, her other children completely ignored her. The son she trusted the most and relied on, told her to confess and die. A woman that preached the gospel, conducted deliverance, healed the sick. He turned on her the moment she needed him the most. The second daughter said no need sending her abroad, that she would die soonest anyway. The second to last born refused to come see her despite her heartful pleas. The third to last born decided her that he had not seen him or heard from him and that he was in Ghana when he knew his address, had his contact number right there in the same Benin City. The fourth to the last born kept on playing tricks, promising to come see her or send money for her hospital bills, but never did. The very first born lashed out at her in her weak state, on her death bed. He called her a heartless person, that she neglected him all hiie life, blamed her for all his misfortunes and wanted to sell her house to pay his death and use her grave to secure his land which he had a dispute over, by burying her there, despite her last wish to be buried in her house in the event of her passing. This was the same person she helped with his bride price and traditional marriage. I vividly remembered the same wife she helped him marry dance and rejoice and was the first to tell me the news about her passing in a very happy voice. During the funeral, she said God had settled them and answered their prayers and that, that year was the best because through my mother’s passing, they were able to make money and settle the huge debt ,in millions they had accumulated, mark it, in millions..when they have never sent her above #10,000 throughout her Life Time and secure their land by burying her there even though it was against you her last wishes.
My questions are these:
1. What has she done to deserve all these.?
2. Is that how this world is wicked, cause it seems like I have been living in a fairy tale.
3. Do I stand a chance against them or just avoid them totally?
My mother was a single mom who raised them till she met my dad. Their fathers are still well alive but neglected them. They blamed her for all their misfortunes. I grew up to thier complaints. She toiled day and night, never stayed home a day, unless she was sick. And she was hardly ever sick. A hard worker, a jealous and protective mother and all of this is is her reward. She was given away to their fathers by her own mother because that was how it was done back then, till she chose my dad for herself, after the other men ran away and neglected their families. She never abandoned her children. Is this her reward?.
It hurts so much that she ended so badly. She had so much faith in them, that they would come and rescue her from poverty, but instead, they killed her. She was shocked by their actions. I remember on one of such journeys my to the church, she asked me “Is tht how this world is wicked?”.
Now, onto me. I hadn’t even finished mourning, when I started receiving physical and spiritual attacks from her children. Days after she died. The son whom she trusted asked me why I was crying. I have defended these people to the ends of the Earth. Most of my friends, right from secondary School knew how I praised them. I looked up to them as role models. I am in utter shock, just like my mom was. It’s like I lost my whole family in one day , because their true intentions were revealed when she died. They sold the house after all . Despite her wishes to be buried there. I am in utter shock, fear and anger. Don’t know how to move on. Just have my dad left. I just want to get back to a normal life, but I don’t know how. They are all I had known, loved, adored. Somebody please help me!!!

Greetings the truth about life is that it goes on and people are not forced to be family or friends if you have looked them as role model their actions now should make you reconsider also they are not all you have as family remember your father is still alive love him and care for him.
