I wasn’t the perfect daughter but I honoured my father, I obeyed him always and of course I trusted him.
One day I had a dream about a flower, a flower that looked like it was for me. So as I’ve always done I went to inquire of my father about the flower. He said it was for me, I was so happy thinking about the flower. My father told me to tell my mum about the flower but I was so scared ’cause you see my mum, I didn’t want to think of how she’d react. I got my flower, I took it everywhere with me. I loved my flower with everything in me, I watered it always. I was consistent and deliberate in my care for my flower.

Though my flower had my torns ,I loved it regardless since my father said it was for me. I tried to cut off all the torns so my flower could be very beautiful. My flower wanted it’s torns though .

One day I had a fight with my flower,I didn’t want it anymore. It’s torns kept hurting me each time I watered it.but then one day as I was pruning my flower. It let me cut of one of it torns I was soo happy.Soon my flower would become very beautiful I thought

My joy was short-lived though. One blissful morning or so I thought it would be. My father asked me about my flower. I was so excited that I brought it to my father. He asked me to show my mum but I was scared for my flower still had many torns that needed to be pruned.

But because I was an obedient daughter I showed my mum my flower but she asked me to cast it out. That I shouldn’t be tending to a flower while other girls were still braiding their hair. That I should braid my hair too.

I was sad, filled with despair but because I was an obedient daughter.i threw away my flower,my flower that I loved so much, I sat in front of the mirror braiding my hair like I was asked too. But then my reflection I couldn’t see. My sight began to fail me. But I still braided my hair. I tried my best to braid my hair.

All I could think of was my flower each night as I closed my eyes to sleep, for I loved my flower very much.

I had another dream about my flower so I told my mum,she said to keep my flower in sight but not to hold it like it’s mine.so for months I watched my flower from my window and also made time to braid my hair. Other girls began to admire my flower, so I told my father for I began to wonder why.

My father told me to watch the flower ( “my” flower suddenly became “the” flower) and water it often but not to love the flower, so sometimes I would go outside to water the flower with my barrel of water that took me hours to fill in a far stream.

I watered the flower regularly like my father said but each day I could braid my hair less because my eyesight got worse. I got tired I was now very weak. So I stopped watering the flower.

The flower might not be for me still I do all those things for a flower that I cannot love. I told my friends about it but they tried to make me nuture the flower .

Do you know why I stopped nuturing the flower that I loved so much but I couldn’t love or hold, that’s because I was afraid that I would nuture the flower and it would belong to someone else, for each day different people passed by admiring the flower.

I thought to myself one day the owner will come and take the flower away after I have removed all the torns and watered it into a tall mighty tree.
I will be left with no flower just my barrel which I used to fetch water daily.

Is it fair that I keep watering this flower?? Even if my sight keeps getting blurrer, even if the flower might never be mine.
Is it fair that I keep watering this flower??🌷🌷
