My feelings confuses me. How can you tell you’re in love? When does it move from really liking someone to being in love?
I’ve had a love interest for a while now. A year plus ago. Things were awkward
but then we started talking online and gradually it moved to communication in person. This is someone who apparently wasn’t interested in a relationship when the feelings were clear still. It hurt badly and I couldn’t communicate every way I felt so I wasn’t pushing or showing the feelings I knew I had myself. Then suddenly things changed. Maybe the appearance of a threat. And I’ve been so happy. And we’ve had our moments but now this person is so much in love, missing me badly and stuff. And we have to take very different part soon due to schooling. Now he’s demanding a commitment which is exactly what I was hoping but after talking it out I feel so …. tied down. And I’m being asked to profess love in a way I find demanding. I’m trying to figure out if it’s love before giving an answer.
This person wants a lifelong commitment if possible with distance not being a barrier. I feel scared. I’m young and not very experienced. We both are. I need help. I need to understand myself. I started promising already before feeling this way.

It’s quite normal to experience confusion and doubt when it comes to matters of the heart. Understanding love can take time due to how complicated it is. It’s important to recognise the difference between true love, intense lust, and attraction. Ask yourself if you appreciate this person’s qualities, respect them, and genuinely care about their well-being. Love involves a deep connection, emotional intimacy, and a sense of companionship. It’s not solely about the excitement of the moment but also about envisioning a future together.
Try to communicate openly with your partner about your feelings and concerns. Share your fears and uncertainties with them, and try to understand their perspective as well. Healthy relationships are built on mutual understanding and communication.
Consider your feelings carefully, and if you’re not ready, avoid rushing into commitments. It’s fine to express your true feelings and to take the time and space you need to come to a decision. Understand that a strong, committed relationship should improve your life rather than make you feel tied down. Speak to a counselor if you need more assistance on how to handle the situation.
